On our second day at Camp Denali, our naturalist-guided hikes went to the alpine tundra. This involved a bus ride for about 25 miles back towards the park entrance. Sue opted for the moderate hike, which circled around Stony Hill, while Aimee, Dave and I chose the strenuous hike that dropped down from the Eielson Visitors Center, crossed the Thorofare River bar and then climbed part way up Green Dome. Walking on the tundra is really fun, as it is often quite spongy, and there are lots of flowers. And we can call ourselves true Alaskan hikers, as we got our feet wet crossing the river bar (multiple times)!

- Looking down on the Thorofare River bar, a classic braided river – now you see why we had multiple crossings

- Lunch time – shortly after I shot this, we spotted three bears across the river bar and watched them for the rest of lunch
