After arriving in Fairbanks the previous afternoon, we got up early on Day 1 to catch the train from Fairbanks to Denali National Park. When we arrived at the Denali Park Depot, we boarded a bus for our seven-hour journey to Camp Denali, with a wonderful mid-afternoon picnic break. Lots of sitting, but fortunately the scenery and the wildlife were spectacular! We saw eight bears, numerous caribou, and a pair of nesting gyrfalcons before arriving at Camp Denali and settling into our cabins for the night.
- Waiting to board the train
- All aboard!
- Traveling through the Nenana River gorge
- And now for the bus ride
- Nothing can prepare you for how enormous the landscape is in Denali!
- Caribou jam!
- Gyrfalcons
- Mama keeping an eye on her cubs
- And now it is time to rest
- Enjoying the view from our porch with a bit of wine…
- …and seeing that the mountain is starting to poke out from the clouds!
