The first stop on our Canadian Rockies adventure was Kootenay National Park, where we spent five nights at Marble Canyon campground and did some great hikes. Our first hike was to view Stanley Glacier. After enjoying a nice trail through a regenerating forest that burned in 2003 for two and a half miles, we had to do a steep climb up an unrelenting talus slope for another mile to get to the plateau with a view of the glacier. The upside is that we came down by some great waterfalls. Day two was a rest day, so we played tourist and checked out Marble Canyon and the Paint Pots. The next day I did a seventeen mile loop hike up to Floe Lake at the south end of the Rockwall and then climbed up to Numa Pass and came down Numa Creek. This area also burned in 2003 and the fireweed on the climb up to Floe Lake was amazing. And the devastation coming down Numa Creek was also impressive. Our final hike was down to Vista Lake and then up, up, up to Arnica Lake.
