The summer of 2019 included our usual adventures in Glacier National Park, including bike rides on the Going to the Sun road before it was open to cars, a weekend camping at Two Medicine, a four-night backpacking trip into the Belly River region, two weekends at the cabins in Many Glacier, and a two-night stay at Granite Park Chalet. We bought kayaks this spring, which added a new way to explore the area, and over the course of the summer we managed to kayak on most of the major lakes in the park. Paula also added a few more peaks to her list of Glacier summits, including Mount Gould for her 50th peak in the park and a fun climb up Little Matterhorn that involved a solo backpack into the Sperry Campground and a chance to see the changes from the Sprague Fire and the current status of the Sperry Chalet reconstruction.

An early May trip over to Many Glacier with our bikes

Not surprisingly, there’s a lot of fireweed
You could hear this waterfall before, but you couldn’t see it, and you couldn’t see the chalet from here either

As expected, there was a goat greeting party on the trail to Comeau Pass

Thou shalt not pass! This mom did not yield the trail, so I went around…
My destination – Little Matterhorn
Lots of great scenery as I worked my way down to the base of Little Matterhorn
