On our third day at Camp Denali, we explored the kettle ponds. A kettle pond forms when a block of ice from a glacier (a serac) detaches, becomes buried in sediment and slowly melts, leaving behind a pit that fills with water. Our hike involved some bushwhacking and lots of wandering through fields of arnica, with Denali looming to the south the entire time.
