We enjoyed a leisurely morning with extra time for coffee and tea, as the plan was to run Lava Falls on the high water in the afternoon. We stopped at Fern Glen in the morning to visit a waterfall and had to swim a short stretch to get to it, due to all the rain over the previous days. Lava Falls is the other rapid in the Grand Canyon with a 10 rating, so we stopped to scout it. Then Ashley took John, a professional photographer who was part of the group, down river to shoot the rest of our boats running the rapid from water level. Since I was in Ashley’s boat, I got to watch all five boats make their runs from above, before Ashley took us on a great run herself. We stopped just below Lava at Andrea’s Folly and everyone (especially the crew) was in a celebratory mood after our successful day!
