It rained heavily overnight and was still raining when we got up on Day 8, but fortunately it stopped before we had to pack up camp. We had a few tantalizing glimpses of blue sky, but it was cloudy, rainy, and cold most of the day. That didn’t stop a few of us from trying a bow ride in Hakatai Rapid, where I went for an unplanned swim when a wave broke right as we crested it. We stopped at Elves Chasm to check out the waterfall and pools, and then continued downstream into my favorite rock formation, the Tapeats Sandstone. We stopped at Randy’s Rock for the day and did a quick climb up the sandstone to check out the view, before setting up camp under the ledges and hoping everything would dry out.
