The summer of 2017 included numerous bike rides on the Going to the Sun road before it was open to cars, two weekends camping at Two Medicine, two weekends at the cabins in Many Glacier, a backpacking trip to Quartz Lake, a two-night stay at Granite Park Chalet, and a two-night stay at Sperry Chalet (just a few days before it was closed due to the Sprague Fire— it burned down a few weeks later). At Quartz Lake, Sue was treated to backcountry dining at its finest to celebrate her retirement—French toast with strawberries and bacon for breakfast, filet with peppercorn sauce and mashed potatoes for dinner, and homemade cherry pie—courtesy of her Sherpa Paula. We traversed Floral Park with our hiking group, led a small group up Mount Henkel, and did a girls climb of Mount Reynolds. Paula also climbed quite a few new peaks: Mount Helen, Allen Mountain, Iceberg Peak, Mount Wilbur, Edwards Mountain, and Flinsch Peak.
