Bob Marshall Wilderness: The Chinese Wall 2017

In July 2017, we went on a weeklong trip into the Bob Marshall Wilderness to see the Chinese Wall with many of our hiking friends.  We arranged for the trip to be horse-supported, so that all we had to carry was our day hiking gear.  On Day 1, we started at Benchmark and hiked in for 9 miles to the aptly named Nine Mile Meadows.  It was baking hot and dusty, but since we only had daypacks, the miles went by quickly.  On Day 2, some of us hiked up to Prairie Reef Lookout (13.5 miles, 4,000 feet of elevation) to enjoy the views, while a few people, including Sue, went fishing.  On Day 3, we left our camp at Nine Mile Meadow and trekked 12 miles to another campsite near the base of the Chinese Wall—we could see the wall through the trees at camp, but it was about a mile up the trail to get to the wall.  Because the wall faces east, it catches the early morning light, so we set the alarm for a 5 AM wake up time on Day 4 in order to see the sunrise on the wall.  Later in the day, a few of us climbed Trick Pass in order to stand on top of the wall.  On Day 5, we hiked back down to our Nine Mile Meadow campsite, and then on Day 6 we went back out via Benchmark.  A wonderful trip with great friends to an amazing place!
